January #TravelLinkUp - Travel Wishlists and 2018 Plans

January #TravelLinkUp - Travel Wishlists and 2018 Plans

I can't believe it was October that I last published a blogpost over here. I feel like the past 6 months have just disappeared in the blink of an eye. The good thing is I have the Travel Link Up which nudges me into writing again.. mainly because the topic is always something easy to write about, and something that I love doing - traveling. For January the topic is Travel Wishlists and 2018 Plans - perfect. Let's go..

Well first of all lets take a little look back at 2017, it became quite a year for travel for us. We started off in late March when we travelled to Sri Lanka for our honeymoon. We had the most incredible (nearly) 3 weeks, and although a trip to Sri Lanka wouldn't be at the top of everyones Honeymoon Destination List it worked perfectly for us. We got to see so much of Sri Lanka in a relatively short amount of time, and we now know our favourite places and hotels that we would choose to return to.

After returning from Sri Lanka in March it was rather a wait until our next trip - but basically as soon as we landed I was researching flights and Air BnBs for a trip in late September. I think it always helps to have something to look forward to!

In August we were due to go to Nice, but unfortunately The Boy had an important business trip he needed to go on, and so it was with disappointment that we cancelled it. I was extremely lucky to spend 4 days in France with the lovely family that I work for and then managed to book a week in Florence (and Pisa). I'm a firm believer of things happening for a reason and although I missed holidaying with my Husband had a wonderful time in both France & Florence.

So then it was September - the Boy turned 30 and that surprise trip was nearing. I was so excited to have kept it a secret from him for 5 months. On his actual Birthday I gave him a travel guide to Lisbon and it was then that he found out where we were going. We had the most incredible weekend in Lisbon - in fact I think I fell in love with it. I love that you can hop on a plane for just a few hours and get so much sun, in fact I wondered about a monthly dose of Vitamin D in Lisbon during our Winter... if only, eh?

 Oh Lisbon ♥

Oh Lisbon ♥

Then in October I was given 4 days off from work, and I'm not the type of person who wants to sit at home.. so I got searching again. This time the destination was Norway with the wonderful Norwegian Air. I'm always after a bargain, and found flights for less than £100 each. So that was it - our next destination in the bag. Norway was lovely, we visited Bergen which was very rainy and very expensive, yet Norway is somewhere I'd like to return.. Those fjords are just amazing.

Looking back at my list for 2017, I think I did pretty well:

✓ France - I've only ever been to Paris - once. There's so much more to see.

- A staycation or two - I'd like to visit some more English cities such as Manchester and York, plus maybe another Canopy & Stars /Glamping trip like this one.

 ✓ Portugal

✓  Norway - to see the fjords and search for the northern lights.

- Some interesting places like Slovakia or Austria.

- Croatia

- I'd really like to pull off a surprise trip for The Boy's 30th too. (Uh oh, Iain, are you reading this)?

  Where next?

Where next?

What about 2018?

Slovakia - So far for 2018, the only thing we have booked is a trip to Slovakia, which includes a friends wedding - I can't wait. We'll fly into Vienna and be able to explore a little there before driving into Slovakia.

San Fransico - The Boy has a business trip to San Fran and I'm keen to tag along, as I'd only have to pay for flights, winning!

France - I'm already looking at options for the Summer. I got a real taste for France back in 2017 and would love to explore more.

Slovenia - Slovenia looks beautiful - need I say more?

Australia - We are due to visit Australia in late 2018 and whilst be go that far I'd love to see more of...

New Zealand - Back in 2010 we visited the North Island for 8 days, and then due to the chaos caused by the Icelandic Volcano we had to extend our trip by 10 days, meaning we saw so much more than we would have. However we couldn't stretch to more than a day trip to the South Island, so that's definitely on my agenda at some point.

Iceland - I went to Iceland with 2 friends in 2016, and I'd love to return with the Boy at some point. I'm a little sad that I didn't get to share it with him as it's just a stunning country.

Well that's looking like a pretty epic year of travelling, it definitely won't all be happening, but a girl can dream...
